If you have had the pleasure of meeting one (or more) of the fake codecs, lately ...
then, you probably also saw the new toolbar in your Internet Explorer.

It's called the Protection Toolbar.
However ... protecting you is not among it's tasks.
Instead, it's main task is to try to convince you,it's victim, to download even more Fake programs, like .......
To convince you of it's good intentions, every item of the Protection Bar (Remove adware popups, SPAM protectiion, Scan for Spyware, Security test) is a link to a specific page on hxxp://www.thesavebar.com (I've made this link not directly clickable for a reason ... it means,
don't go there!)
This is the webpage, that's presented to you when you would click Security test, on the Protection Bar.

As you probably remember, if the Protection Bar is installed, it means that you, by accident, have installed a Fake codec (or simular installer) and you are in a lot of touble.

Now, when i look at the Security test-page, and see those questions ... i'm getting a bit afraid.

Why?
Simply because each and everyone of those options are true, if you're a victim of a fake Codec!

So, again, they're trying to convince you of their good intentions and know-how!
Again, they try to lure you into downloading and installing even more garbage.

Let's see what happens, if you should select an option and click Next ...
So, according to their advice, you should download and install (a.o.) AntiVirus Golden and/or VirusBlast
I don't know ... i have my doubts .......... Don't you?

Now then, what would happen if you want to get rid of your Spam, by clicking Spam protection?
I have never known that SPAM-messages usually virus-carriers?
I always thought Virus-emails sometimes try to look like SPAM, and not even all of them ;-)

But okay ... i can understand this absolutely bogus remark.

How else can you try to convince your victims to download and install your fake virusscanners to protect you from SPAM!

This Protection Bar has amazed me in various ways ... it's both ingenieus and silly.
I probably would have laughed about it ... however .... it's very
dangerous for those of you that recognise this story and have no idea how to get rid of those darn popups.
