CCleaner: the Options-menu
Click Options on the left side of CCleaner and then, in
the Options-menu, click Settings.
This will open the window, wich you see in the image on the left of
this text.
Her you can change the following items:
- The language, in wich CCleaner is running.
- Wether or not CCleaner must clean the computer,
when the computer starts up.
- Add extra CCleaner-options to the context-menu of
the Windows Recycling Bin.
- Automaticly check for updates.
- Activate the option for Secure Deletion.
I suggest to leave the options like they are, except for the option Run CCleaner when the
computer starts.
Checkmark this option to clean the computer every time it starts.
It will keep your computer a lot cleaner ...
Almost
everyone has certain sites, wich they visit regularly. If this site
uses cookies, f.e. to help you login, you probably would like to keep
those.
CCleaner can be selective, when it comes to deleting cookies.
While you are in the Options-window,
click Cookies to open the cookies-window.
Here you can select cookies, wich you want to keep when CCleaner cleans
the computer.
In the Cookies
to Delete-list, click the
cookie that you want to keep.
Click the right-arrow
button (in between the two
lists) to place that cookie in the Cookies to Keep-list.
Hint: You can select multiple cookies in the
lists, by holding down the Ctrl-key on your keyboard and then click the
cookies, you wnat to keep, one by one.
The
next option, in the Options-menu,
is Custom.
In the windows, you can choose files, that have to be deleted and folders that have to be cleaned, when CCleaner cleans the
computer.
Click Add
folder, to add a folder
that will contain only temporary files and sub-folders.
A explorer-window will open, where you can choose the specific folder.
Click Add
file, to add a specific
file to delete.
Again, a explorer-window will open, where you can select the specific
file.
Be adviced that the
selected folder(s) will be emptied, every time you clean the computer
with CCleaner!
This option will not work, if in the
main windows, for the Cleaner, the option Advanced >
Custom Files and Folders is not checked!
(By default, the Custom Files option-group is unchecked)
The
advanced options has 5 selectable features:
- select how much of the Windows Temporary folder
will be deleted during cleaning.
- hide warnings
- close CCleaner when it's done cleaning
- prompt to backup registry issues
- show detailed log of Temporary Internet Files
For normal use of CCleaner, the default checkmark-settings are okay,
except for the first one; Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older then
48 hours.
I suggest to remove the checkmark for this option, so that the Windows
Temporary folders are cleaned thoroughly!
